Southland Indoor Track & Field Weekly RecapFRISCO, Texas – Stephen F. Austin juniors Drake Murphy and Antonio Ruiz were named the Southland Conference Men’s Indoor Track & Field Athletes of the Week, the league announced Wednesday. Southland Athletes of the Week are presented by UniversalCoin.com. Southland weekly award winners are nominated and voted upon by each school’s sports information director. Voting for one’s own athlete is not permitted. To earn honorable mention, a student-athlete must appear on at least 25 percent of ballots. The Lumberjacks return to Lubbock for the second straight weekend, competing at the Texas Tech Classic and Multis on Friday and Saturday. Men’s Track Athlete of the Week – Drake Murphy, Stephen F. Austin – Jr. – Galveston, TexasMurphy ran the 800m for the first time this season and won the event with a time of 1:55.37 out of 13 competitors at the Texas Tech Invitational, a mark which is second best in the Southland this season. He also anchored the 4x400m relay, which took fifth at the event. Men’s Field Athlete of the Week – Antonio Ruiz, Stephen F. Austin – Jr. – Tomball, TexasRuiz took second in the pole vault in Lubbock out of 17 finishers, tying his Southland-best mark of 5.22m (17-1.50).
